Visit Our Costa Mesa Dentist Office if You Have Gum Disease

Regular visits to our Costa Mesa dentist office can be the strongest tool you have to help prevent the onset of gum disease. For many Americans, there is an ongoing challenge with the onset of diseases like gingivitis. Unfortunately, most people do not realize that they have contracted an infection like gingivitis until they start to experience some of the symptoms.

The symptoms of gingivitis include –

  • Bleeding of the gums
  • Swelling of the gums
  • Pain
  • Constant bad breath
  • Teeth looking longer than normal
  • And more!

It is important to note that gingivitis can progress further and turn into periodontal disease, which can result in tooth loss and long-term damage.  The good news is that when you visit our Costa Mesa dentist office, we will take all steps necessary to prevent the onset of gingivitis and ensure that should you demonstrate signs of gum disease potential, that we treat it effectively and immediately.

Protect Yourself from Developing Gum Disease

Too many people do not realize that it is easier to take oral health precautions in the first place rather than have to deal with a disease like gingivitis.  Essentially, in order to reduce the chance that you will get periodontal disease or even gingivitis, you need to perform some of the basic oral health habits that are good for your teeth anyway. This includes making sure that you brush your teeth on a regular basis for a minimum of two minutes per side, and visiting our Costa Mesa dentist office at least once every six months.

Your toothbrush plays a critical role in defending them against pretty much any oral disease. In order to have the right hardness of toothbrush, you should select one that is neither too hard nor too soft. Having a toothbrush that is moderately soft allows it to clean your teeth properly, removing all plaque and tartar, which are ultimately responsible for gum diseases. In addition, you should make sure that your toothbrush is the right size so that it can fit between all the grooves and crevices and get your teeth cleaned properly.  Next, you need to remember to floss daily in order to remove plaque that is trapped in between your teeth.

We Treat Gum Disease

If you are showing signs of gum disease, we can perform a deep dental cleaning.  This may be required to remove the plaque that has become trapped on the surface of your teeth, underneath your gums. This area is impossible to clean on your own and so a professional cleaning will be required.  The good news is that once you have had a deep dental cleaning, your gums should naturally return to good health.  As a result, you will see a visible difference in how they look as your gums stop swelling and bleeding.  However, if you do not have gum disease treated in its early stage, then your gums may recede or pull away from your teeth.  As they do, more of your teeth will be exposed and your roots may be as well.  In this scenario, you could require more invasive measures like a gum graft to restore your gums to good health.  This makes preventative care and early treatment important for your health and comfort.

Schedule an appointment with our dental office at the first sign of gum disease so that we can examine and treat you.
